SmartQR Studio
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the SmartQR Studio mobile app (the “App”) handles information. SmartQR Studio is developed and published by IndiBuys. In this policy, “IndiBuys”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean IndiBuys. By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
The short version
- You don’t need an account. We don’t ask for your name, email or phone number.
- The QR codes you create and the codes you scan are stored only on your phone. We never upload them, and they are never sent to advertising, analytics or crash reporting.
- The camera is used only while the Scan screen is open. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent first, and you can change your choice at any time.
- Usage analytics are off by default. You can turn crash reports off in Settings.
Contents
1. Information stored on your device
SmartQR Studio is designed to work offline. The following information is saved in the App’s private storage on your phone and is not sent to us:
- Generated codes: the content you enter (for example a web address, Wi‑Fi details, contact card, event or message), the colours, size and logo you choose, and when you created it.
- Scan history: the content of codes and barcodes you scan, their format and when you scanned them.
- Logo images: if you add a logo from your gallery, a copy of that image is kept in the App’s storage so your code can be redrawn.
- Settings: your theme, scanning preferences, default colours, recent colours and your privacy choices.
When you download a code, the image is saved to your phone’s Pictures folder (Pictures/SmartQRStudio). When you share a code, it goes to the app you choose, and that app’s privacy policy applies.
2. Device permissions
| Permission | Why we use it |
|---|---|
| Camera | To scan QR codes and barcodes. The camera runs only while the Scan screen is open. Images from the camera are processed on your device and are never recorded or uploaded. You can scan from a photo instead if you prefer not to grant camera access. |
| Photos (system Photo Picker) | To let you choose a logo image or a photo to scan. The App sees only the image you pick. |
| Storage (Android 9 and earlier only) | To save downloaded QR code images to your Pictures folder. |
| Internet and network state | To load ads, verify purchases, check for updates and send the diagnostics described below. |
| Advertising ID | Used by Google AdMob to deliver and measure ads, subject to your consent choices. |
| Vibration | For haptic feedback, such as when a scan succeeds. |
3. Information shared with service providers
We don’t sell your personal information. The App uses the following third-party services. Each one receives only the information needed for its purpose, and none of them receives the content of the codes you create or scan.
| Provider | Purpose | Information collected |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob and User Messaging Platform | Showing ads in the free version and collecting consent | Advertising ID, IP address (used to estimate approximate location), device and app information, ad interactions, consent choices |
| RevenueCat and Google Play Billing | Processing and verifying SmartQR Pro purchases | Purchase history, product, purchase token, an anonymous app user ID, device and app information. We never receive your payment card details. |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Finding and fixing crashes | Crash traces, device model, OS version, app version, a Firebase installation ID. You can turn this off in Settings. |
| Firebase Analytics | Understanding which features are used, so we can improve the App | App interactions (for example screens viewed and which code types are used), device and app information, a Firebase installation ID. Only collected if you opt in. |
| Firebase Performance Monitoring | Measuring app speed and reliability | Startup times, screen rendering times, network request timings, device and app information |
| Firebase Remote Config | Adjusting app settings without an update | A Firebase installation ID, app version, device language and country |
| Google Play (In-App Updates and In-App Review) | Prompting you to update the App or leave a rating | Handled by Google Play under Google’s privacy policy |
These providers have their own privacy policies:
- Google Privacy Policy (AdMob, Firebase and Google Play) and how Google uses information from apps that use its services
- Privacy and Security in Firebase
- RevenueCat Privacy Policy
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of users, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply.
4. Advertising and consent
The free version of SmartQR Studio is supported by ads from Google AdMob. Pro users don’t see ads.
- If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or another region where consent is required, we show Google’s consent form before any ad is requested. You can accept or decline personalised ads.
- If you decline, you may still see ads, but they will be non-personalised. Non-personalised ads still use limited data, such as approximate location and device information, for frequency capping, fraud prevention and measurement.
- You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy & ads → Privacy choices.
- You can also reset or delete your Advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalisation, in your Android device settings (Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads depending on your device).
- US state privacy notice: we don’t sell personal information for money. Sharing data with advertising partners for personalised ads may be considered “sharing” or “targeted advertising” under some US state laws. You can opt out using the controls above.
5. Purchases and subscriptions
SmartQR Pro is sold through Google Play. Google processes the payment, and we receive no payment card or billing address details. RevenueCat confirms your purchase so Pro features can be unlocked and restored. You can manage or cancel a subscription in the Google Play Store under Payments & subscriptions.
6. Links and content you scan
When you open a link or act on a scanned code, you leave the App. The website or app you open has its own privacy practices, which we don’t control. Please check that a link goes where you expect before you open it. The App shows the domain to help you do that.
7. Your choices and controls
- Usage analytics: off by default. Turn it on or off in Settings → Privacy & ads → Share usage analytics.
- Crash reports: on by default and anonymous. Turn them off in Settings → Privacy & ads → Send crash reports.
- Ad consent: change it in Settings → Privacy & ads → Privacy choices (shown where required).
- Camera: grant or revoke it at any time in your device settings.
- History: delete single items, or clear all scans or all generated codes in Settings → History.
8. Data retention and deletion
- On-device data stays until you delete it in the App, clear the App’s data, or uninstall the App. Uninstalling removes it permanently. Images you downloaded to your Pictures folder stay there until you delete them.
- Crash and analytics data is kept by Firebase according to Google’s retention settings (Crashlytics crash data for about 90 days; Analytics data for up to 14 months).
- Purchase records are kept by Google Play and RevenueCat for as long as needed to provide Pro access and to meet legal and tax obligations.
- Advertising data is kept by Google according to its own policies.
Because we have no account system, we can’t look up your data by name or email. To ask for deletion of data held by our service providers, contact us at the address below and we’ll help as far as we can.
9. Security
Your history is stored in the App’s private storage, which other apps can’t read. Data sent to our service providers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
10. Children’s privacy
SmartQR Studio is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
11. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, the CCPA/CPRA in California, or India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to opt out of targeted advertising. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on your consent for personalised ads and usage analytics, and on our legitimate interests for crash reporting, performance monitoring and fraud prevention, and on contract to provide purchases you make.
To exercise any of these rights, email us. We will not discriminate against you for doing so.
12. International transfers
Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries whose data protection laws may differ from yours. Where required, they use safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we may also tell you in the App. Continuing to use the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
